Shannon Bahrke’s career has been hampered by serious injuries. In 2003, she broke her jaw while competing in Japan. She was attempting a back flip, caught her skis awkwardly and landed with the lower part of her face directly on her ski pole. She was out for nearly a month with her jaw wired shut. She returned to ski in the 2003-4 season, but tore several ligaments in her right knee during the second event and her year was over.

There are different blends of coffees available through the store and on its Web site, silverbeancoffee.com. Each blend is named for an athlete, like Bahrke, the moguls skier Patrick Deneen, the cross-country skier Andy Newell, and the aerialist Emily Cook. For each coffee purchased, a donation is made to the athlete and the athlete’s designated charity.

The favorite in the women’s moguls is Canadian Jennifer Heil, but all three Americans in the event are legitimate contenders to make the podium. Heather Mcphie will be making her Olympic debut, while Hannah Kearney returns after failing to advance through the qualification rounds despite being a gold-medal favorite in Torino in 2006, and Shannon Bahrke returns for her third Olympics looking to add her to her medal haul after winning silver in 2002.
