Nvidia 240 Gts Views
The GTS 250 is basically a 55nm G92b based 9800 GTX+ GPU on a new P361 PCB and internally Nvidia calls it D10P2. The differences are mainly on the power design; the core and memory speeds are identical to the 9800 GTX+ but power consumption has been lowered. However, not all GTS 250's have these improvements. Some of the earlier GTS 250's were merely rebadged 9800 GTX+ video cards. All of the GTX 200 series cards and 40nm GeForce 210, GeForce GT 220 & GeForce GT 240 support OpenGL 3.3. There is also a version of the GTS250 with the G92b core called the green edition, marketed as such because of low-power consumption and reduced core and memory clocks. Another version of the GTS 250 was released by Gigabyte Technology, with a slightly altered chip layout and an attached Zalman fan.
As you guys know NVIDIA has been on a renaming streak lately. The GeForce 9800 GTX+ received a transformation towards GeForce GTS 250. There however was supposed to be another model getting a makeover. The 9800 GT supposedly was to be rebranded towards GeForce GTS 240. Apparently that isn't happening anymore. Either way at 149 USD the GTS 250 is a very sound buy of course.
1 Feature requires supported video software. Features may vary by product. 2 NVIDIA SLI-certified versions of GeForce PCI Express GPUs only. A GeForce GTS 240 must be paired with another GeForce GTS 240, regardless of graphics card manufacturer. 3 NVIDIA PhysX drivers are required to experience in-game GPU PhysX acceleration. Refer to www.nvidia.com/PhysX for more information. 4 Requires application support for CUDA technology.
I recently bought a new dell that came with the OEM GTS 240, 1g Nvidia card. Shortly before buying this new computer I had purchased the GTS OC 250, 1g Nvidia card to help speed up my old computer. I ran a benchmark test using the windows experience scan. The 240 card tested at a rating of 6.9 out of 7.9. I removed this card and installed the 250 I had recently purchased and ran the same benchmark test this time with a 7.0 rating. While not noticable the 250 is slightly faster. I tested both cards out playing Crysis in High Mode. There was also a slight improvment in the texturing with the 250 as well. With this in mind I packed the 240 into a box for safe keeping and will be sticking with the 250. Hope this helps those who have access to both cards... Cardinal_ Michael
