5th avenue bar

These cocktails are in the Milk Honey neighborhood of $15, which is less than they could be charging considering the location (5th Avenue and 41st Street) and the posh clientele you might expect to find down there. But we noted no douchebaggery on display in last night crowd, just a convivial crowd of friendlies (maybe that was The Cellar Door talking?). Even stone cold sober, it's an attractive room, dominated by two mammoth 120-year-old, 14-foot-long slabs of claro walnut which serve as the bar. A warm brick wall from a 1790 rural Connecticut farmhouse lines the entrance and basement walls, where banquettes await under exposed wood beams and old industrial light fixtures.

On the first floor of The Setai Fifth Avenue, limestone, deep wool carpeting and black oak hardwood flow organically around the warm glow of Bar on 5th's central fireplace, creating a landscape of intimate spaces. Bar on 5th is a cozy place, bedecked with works of art and built-in cabinetry, where the exotic feels like home. Bar on 5th is the perfect place to meet friends on a tour of Fifth Avenue bars, or on a posh night out in New York City. A short distance from Times Square and the theater district, The Setai Fifth Avenue is a plush sanctuary in which you can discuss a fabulous show, or escape the high energy of Times Square. Once inside, make your way to the curved, black-stone bar topped with thick amber glass and request one of our signature cocktails or a Kaffir Lime Mule (our exclusive, house-made ginger beer). We invite you to experience Midtown Manhattan in Fifth Avenue style, from the luxurious couches and cushioned club chairs at The Setai Fifth Avenue's Bar on 5th.

This snack review happened because Steve over at TheSneeze.com once pondered why 5th Avenues are sold everywhere, yet he's never seen anyone ever eat one. Or even admit to eating one. So WASAW gave it a try. Personally, I was delighted to discover this bar is very similar to a Butterfinger, but not as crunchy -- t"moista" is the closest I can come to describing it. And more peanut buttery. The buttery crunch inside doesn't tend to stick to your teeth as much as it does in Butterfingers (where some of corn flakey goodness can sit in a molar for well over 48 hours). A nice surprise, and you're sure to get noticed with one of these in your hand.

Not nearly the size of Butterfinger (I'm talking average vending machine size comparison here), and as good as it tasted, I still get more satisfaction out of a Butterfinger. Not sure why, exactly -- probably the peanut butter softens it -- but you almost want to really munch on a candy bar that reminds you so much of a Butterfinger. 5th Avenue is more likely to dissolve in your mouth without any of the fun crunching needed.
