EverQuest II: The Shadow Odyssey is an all-in-one compilation pack featuring five expansion packs and three adventure packs. The Shadow Odyssey stretches well beyond the fantasy realm and propels the EverQuest II world into a new era of excitement and adventure. The latest expansion provides content for players level 50-80, including more than 20 new zones and an achievement point increase to 200.

Shadow Odyssey is somewhat different to past offerings because the game play has been expanded to allow for a new race of Shadowmen who have came from The Void, a dimension just beyond the lands of Norrath. The initiation of the Shadowmen infiltration started with a series of live events that occurred months before this expansion was released with special quests, server events and rewards which introduced players to this new threat in Norrath. To be fair, the EverQuest storyline is rather good for the contexts of the genre and the storyline has been suitably advanced with the release of this expansion pack. Norath is a complex world which influences the reality world today and allows each gamer to progress through the storyline by giving them an active role in current events as the new plot twists are revealed. The reason why people play MMORPG's is because of this open ended and interactive world with cunning twists and plot developments and TSO certainly does not fail to deliver.

TSO has also introduced a new mapping system which incorporates larger maps with significantly more detail. There is also a minimap feature and the map zooms in and out to make it easy to use and as all the points of interest are listed this proves to be beneficial in the long term. It is still not a perfect design to be honest though as there are some legibility and contrast issues from time to time. EverQuest II: The Shadow Odyssey is a great expansion pack for the MMORPG masses and introduces many fun and entertaining aspects to this game series with scripted instanced dungeons and missions focused on equipment levels and team play.
