Sr 400 Yamaha Views
Here's a collection of video I pulled off Youtube. All contain some great footage of Yamaha SR400's & SR500's in action. The Yamaha SR400/SR500 in my opinion is one of the most customisable motorcycles on the market (if you're wanting a retro look). The Japanese do amazing things with these big singles with a plethora of workshops producing amazing SR400/SR500 based Cafe Racers, Bobbers, hardtails, street trackers and much more.
The Yamaha SR500 is a popular thumper. It first started production in 1978, as a road-going version of the popular Yamaha XT500.[1] It experienced good sales throughout the US, Europe and Australia. The SR500 is no longer sold in any market worldwide, but its sister bike, the SR400, was manufactured in Japan until 2008 when emissions restrictions halted production. In 2010 Yamaha is reintroducing the SR400 with a fuel injection system replacing the carburetor. The SR400 is essentially the same bike as the SR500, but with a shorter stroke and heavier muffler to pass tighter emission restrictions.
Released in 1978, the SR500 was Yamaha’s attempt to cash in on nostalgia for the period when 500 singles were the preferred mount of serious riders. The SR500 eventually led to the SRX600 and Yamaha now produces a 660 road single. Although, the reputation of the SR500 remains so strong, that Yamaha has continued to produce it (ending in 2008) both for the Japanese domestic market (in 400cc form to take advantage of registration laws) and for the European market where its popularity has never diminished.
Back in 1982 I took a Yamaha SR250SE USCustom from Bournemouth Dorset on a very enjoyable ride around France following Arthur Eperons route guide. The bike was a joy to ride 2 up fully loaded with camping and cooking equipement. It was photographed a lot by German riders of the Yamaha XT 500.They were in groups all sporting red and white leathers and riding in tight formation. As opposed me and my girlfriend wareing what was comfortable on the day.Just mentioned this cause IA'm thinking of getting an SR 400 to use in Eilat Israel where I live now.
