Witchfire Views
Witchfire is a fictional magic-using superheroine and owned by DC Comics. Created by Kurt Busiek and Tom Grummett, she first appeared in JLA #61/2, (February 2002). She subsequently joined and starred in The Power Company, which ran for eighteen issues, and her own, eponymous one-shot, which was part of the Power Surge event to publicize the introduction of the Power Company title.
During the run of The Power Company, Witchfire discovered that she was not in fact the real Rebecca Carstairs, but actually a homunculus based on Carstairs. This revelation left her highly curious about the nature of her own existence, and she attempted to contact Zatanna and Madame Xanadu for information on her actual origin [1]. By the series' end, this plot thread had yet to be resolved.
More recently, Witchfire was seen in the first issue of the Day of Vengeance limited series, gathered with other mystics in the Oblivion Bar during the Spectre's attack on Earth. In the subsequent Day of Vengeance Special, she was seen joining the Phantom Stranger's army of mystics to help round up the Seven Deadly Sins, who had escaped when the Spectre destroyed the Rock of Eternity. She was briefly possessed by Lust, and attempted to force herself on Blue Devil.
When Alpha Flight vanished from Earth, the Canadian government recruited Witchfire along with Nemesis, Wild Child, Auric and Silver to form Gamma Flight.[1] Upon the return of Alpha Flight, Gamma Flight was ordered to arrest them[2], but both teams teamed up to defeat Llan. Gamma Flight was later disbanded in a merger with a revived Department H and Alpha Flight with Witchfire remaining.[3]
